Detailed Description

She’s a woman in a man's world, with a grace and beauty that are as striking as her determination.
And only more so when she dons her pilot's jumpsuit and climbs into her fragile aircraft.

For this adventurous woman in the image of the famous aviatrix Hélène Boucher, Jacques Guerlain composed an enigmatic ambery chypre with floral and woody notes.
Taking inspiration from the novel Vol de Nuit, by friend Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, that tells the story of a young couple forever separated by a doomed night flight, this faceted fragrance takes flight with the green florality of a galbanum top note, before finding cruising altitude with a perfect balance of spices and undergrowth notes.

The poetic signature of an eternal light in the night.

A LEGEND OF LOVE BEYOND THE CLOUDS, FLYING OVER GREEN, WOODY AND SPICY NOTES

At the head of the Vol De Nuit fragrance is galbanum with its green note that arrests the senses.
At the heart, a cocktail of flowers provides a firework display as daffodil and jasmine reveal their assertively brazen characteristics.
Altogether chypre, woody and exotic, the inimitable Vol De Nuit’s bold personality and floral, woody facets bloom into a daring ambery fragrance trail.

Spices.
A surprising and bewitching play on olfactory opposites, warm spices such as black pepper mingle with cold spices such as cardamom and pink berries.

Undergrowth Notes.
Harvested in France, processed into a concrete and then made into an absolute, tree moss absolute brings a woody and earthy note to perfume.

Galbanum.
Grown mainly in Iran, galbanum lends this fragrance a green, resinous note. When combined with bergamot essence and daffodil absolute, it gives Vol de Nuit an enigmatic and daring aspect.

A LEGENDARY BOTTLE

Designed by Raymond Guerlain in 1912, its iconic “inverted heart” bottle is underscored with graceful scrolls typical of Art Nouveau.
Its avant-garde stopper, in the form of a hollowed heart, evokes the delicate romanticism of this perfumery masterpiece and represented a real technical feat at the time.

HOUSE SECRETS

Jacques Guerlain was a friend of writer Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, who published his novel Vol de Nuit in 1931, two years before the perfume of the same name was created.
